all news: Alcohol at the helm can also be expensive
Per mille limit lowered, penalties of up to 5,000 euros possible

Like drink-driving, alcohol at the helm can also be expensive. Since 1 April, it has been illegal for captains to drive a ship with a blood alcohol level of 0.5 per mille or more.

This was announced by the water police on Monday. A fine of up to 5,000 euros may be imposed for offences. The tightening of the regulation, previously the limit was 0.8 per mille, affects not only skippers in commercial shipping, but also the drivers of pleasure craft. High penalties are also imposed for the misuse of drugs.
